With the alarming rates of crime against women, it is essential that certain self-defense measures need to be taught to protect oneself during times of danger.
‘Krav Maga’, a non-competitive martial art and eclectic self-defense system developed in Israel, involves striking techniques, wrestling and grappling. It is known for its focus on real-world situations and extremely efficient, brutal counter-attacks.
Mr.Vijay Kumardemonstrated various combat moves and techniques involved in ‘Krav Maga’ and explained how a girl can survive and dominate the dangerous situations which she might face.
This was a two hour interactive session with several modules. It started with the basic understanding of human body’s vulnerable spots such as the eyes, jaw, throat, ribs, groin, knee, armpits etc. This extended to learning of different strikes using hands, legs and various body parts for escape from hair-holds, hand-holds and hugs.
The girl members of V Trust found this workshop very useful and interesting. It provided a basic know-how on the physical aspects of facing sexual offenders.
